who will stand?

That's North Korea. A small little strip of land on a tiny little peninsula in Asia. Do you see how dark it is compared to South Korea just below, and Japan and China to the East and North. North Korea is run by a dictator named Kim_Jong-il, a madman who is obsessed with Hennessey Cognac. He is an avid film buff, with a collection of 20,000 films, and has over 7,000 Mercedes' Benz. This country is absolutely in dire turmoil, and they have a nut running it. I have a friend here who is raising support and awareness. His grandfather was a wealthy businessman who left everything in North Korea and fled to the south at the beginning of the Korean War. The people of this country make an average of $900 a year. There is no way out for North Koreans. They have to suffer this regime everyday, while we in America sit back and worry about what terrorist attack is next. We need to stop worrying about specific situations and look at the world. Who else will stand up for these people? I'm sick of Americans standing up for whats trendy, Africa(Darfur), South America, Thailand. Not saying the people in those country's don't need our help too, but people will start organizations in specific country's just to show how hip they are. Will we not find where the people that need the most help are? Why are we willing to take a stand for some but not all? "If the people of North Korea are just a Korean problem, were the Jews just a German problem?"

I've had some fascinating conversations about North Korea with the South Korean friends I've made here. There's also a rumor that there are two North Koreans studying at our university, and they live on the 8th floor, right above me.
